SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the media director and guidance of the press secretaries, provide operational support to the media team and assist in the implementation of strategies to publicize UCS programs, positions, experts and research products.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job duties/responsibili ties of the position are included in, but not limited to the information listed below.
Answer calls to the UCS media phone line. Respond promptly to requests for information; refer media representatives to colleagues as
necessary.
Maintain clipping files of press information. Manage news clip distribution system and vendor.
Maintain media database and email lists. Manage vendor. Update entries, generate press lists, and send emails. Upload press releases to web.
Assemble tri-annual board reports.
Provide support to press secretaries and media director.
Pitch reporters with suggestions for stories or articles; provide necessary information to ensure accurate coverage.
Help draft and distribute press releases, pitch letters, staff bios, backgrounders, LTEs, op-eds, and other press materials. Implement national and state media campaigns, schedule road shows, and book radio/TV appearances. Organize press conferences. Collaborate with program staff members as necessary. Coordinate travel arrangements, media contacts, and facility logistics; staff events as required. May craft and recommend proactive and reactive media strategies.
Monitor press coverage to suggest appropriate media tactics.
Research media outlets to devise effective pitches.
Become thoroughly knowledgeable about UCS issues, positions, experts and products and keep abreast of any new developments.
Maintain awareness of role as representative of UCS; consider impact of activities and statements on organization reputation and credentials in press, public and private sectors; direct energies whenever possible to promote UCS, advance organization objectives, and enhance funding opportunities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Work requires knowledge of media and/or public relations. Also required are related technical skills, including ability to write clearly; ability to utilize computer information services; word processing and database proficiency.
EXPERIENCE: Position requires 1-2 years previous journalism or media relations experience. Strong writing and copy editing skills necessary. Must have good attention to detail, exceptional follow through, and thrive in a fast paced environment. On the job training of up to six months is required to learn UCS personnel, philosophy, positions and programs.

Major Purpose: Responsibility for the media relations department, which includes the responsibility for media relations facets of client campaigns and HCN activities, as well as maintenance and growth of HCN’s media affiliate network.

Principal Job Duties/Responsibilities:

The Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) was established in
1999 to promote democratic debate on the most important economic and

Research Assistant (International Issues)

Job Description:
CEPR has an immediate opening for a full-time Research Assistant
(International) . The focus of this work will be international economic
policy issues. Responsibilities include collection and analysis of
data from Spanish and English print and electronic sources,
preparation of charts and graphs, research of English and Spanish
literature and summarization of relevant background material. This
position will include original research of Latin American financial
sources, and writing in and translating of CEPR’s findings into
Spanish for a Latin American audience.

several months of experience as a research assistant or performing

Founded in 1996, Amazon Watch is a nonprofit organization that protects the rainforest and advances the rights of indigenous peoples in the Amazon Basin.

The Program Director is responsible for managing and directing our program staff to deliver results in our advocacy campaigns for human rights, corporate accountability and the preservation of the Amazon's ecological systems. The Program Director is also responsible for helping our program teams deliver effective support to indigenous and local communities in the regions of the Amazon where we work.

This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of the senior management team at Amazon Watch. The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree with minimum 8-10 years experience and expertise in overseeing and implementing international advocacy campaigns for a non-profit or other related organization. This position requires strong leadership and decision-making skills, great management and supervisory abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese. She / he would have demonstrated ability to lead productive and vibrant teams. The successful candidate will also possess strong cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to build strategic alliances that move the work forward. This position demands a dynamic individual able to travel frequently and manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Qualified candidates will also possess an in-depth knowledge of indigenous rights, biodiversity, climate change, corporate accountability, and international development issues in Latin America.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise Amazon Watch’s program staff;
• Work with the program staff to develop short and long-range work plans with clear objectives and timetables for achieving results;
• Lead the development of policy positions on key issues;
• Provide support to campaign teams including writing press releases, op-eds, alerts, and articles, traveling to the region, conducting investigation and analysis, and representing Amazon Watch in the media and at public events as needed;
• Create collaborative partnerships with other organizations on current and future campaigns;
• Provide strategic guidance to the campaign team to deliver results;
• Stay informed on the latest threats and new developments affecting the Amazon region, our partners, or our campaigns;
• Work with the development team to cultivate and maintain donors, assist in the preparation of budgets and progress reports; and
• Participate in Amazon Watch’s organizational planning process

The Resources, Science, and Industry Division (RSI) of the Congressional
Research Service (CRS) is seeking an Analyst in Natural Resources
Policy. The analyst will apply scientific and economic understanding to
the research and analysis of public policy issues related to natural
resources programs, policies, and practices, with an emphasis on the
National Park Service, including issues of visitor use, maintenance,
scientific research, and ecosystem protection. The analyst will also
treat the interrelationships of these issues with associated key natural
resource, federal land management, and science issues, including, for
example, water resources, fish and wildlife, endangered species,
forestry, climate change, ecosystem health, and sustained use.

The analyst will provide objective, expert public policy analysis and
consultation to congressional committees, Members, and staff. This
entails preparing objective, non-partisan, and innovative analytical
studies on public policy issues of national or international
significance; providing personal assistance as an expert on public
policy issues throughout the legislative process, including analyzing,
appraising, and evaluating legislative proposals; and participating in
or leading multidisciplinary team research projects and seminars. The
analyst is also expected to develop over time increasingly sophisticated
skills necessary to provide public policy and legislative analysis at
the highest levels.

The Domestic Social Policy (DSP) Division of the Congressional Research Service is seeking a Specialist on Tax Expenditures to serve the United States Congress. The specialist will work primarily on issues related to the use of tax expenditures to advance social policy goals, in lieu of, or in conjunction with, direct spending approaches to achieve social objectives.

Working closely with other DSP analysts, the Specialist on Tax Expenditures will address issues in education, health, income security, pensions, family policy, and related issues that are of interest to Congress. Examples include the use of tax credits to encourage the purchasing of health insurance in the non-group market, subsidies for child care, the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and tax incentives for saving for retirement, education, home ownership or charitable contributions.

The Chief Financial and Administration Officer is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management policies set by the CHCI Board of Directors. She/he serves as the lead advisor on compliance issues related to IRS, Sarbanes-Oxley and in partnership with the organization’s legal advisor, all matters related to Congressional ethics and HLGOA. She/he directs and oversees all the financial activities of the organization, including preparation of current financial reports as well as summaries and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook, banking and insurance relationships.
The Chief Financial and Administration Officer will define the processes and implement the infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth. S/he is responsible for building and managing effective and streamlined administrative/financial systems, including financial, accounting, legal, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and physical infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the organization's fiscal function and performance.
• Evaluates and advises on the impact of long range planning, introduction of new investment programs/strategies and regulatory action.
• Develops credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the President and CEO, Board of Directors and other senior leadership in performing their responsibilities.
• Establishes credibility throughout the organization and with the Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to financial business challenges.
• Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the organization.
• Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.

• Optimizes the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
• Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes maintaining minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
• Acts as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Corporation may enter.
• Enhances and/or develops implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organization that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
• Serves as key leader on the organization’s administrative processes including HR, payroll and benefits functions for all levels of staff.
• Evaluates the finance and HR team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations about CHCI’s insurance coverage.
• Develops plans to implement and monitor information technology systems and infrastructure to ensure compliance and feasibility.
• Develops plans to ensure facility safety, security and soundness; Secures and directs maintenance services for the facility as required.

Location
The position is based in Washington D.C., and requires occasional travel.

Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain relationships with local and national member organizations, as well as identify and facilitate collaborative work among members.
* Conduct outreach to organizations that could be likely allies to increase MDC¹s membership and reach.
* Manage organizational communications, including maintaining our web site and producing bi-monthly newsletters.
* Stay on top of national media policy issues, and produce high-quality research and writing on these policies in collaboration with and for use by our members and allies.

Requirements

Outstanding communications skills, experience with research and writing, and strong project management skills are required, as is a demonstrated commitment to public interest work. Basic technical knowledge of web site development and on-line communications is a plus, but training can be provided in this area.
